Antigens

SSI has in the course of time carried out immunisations of a variety of animal species.

First the purpose was to produce antibodies in horses against diphtheria toxin. Diphtheria antitoxin was used to treat patients with diphteria. Later on this expert knowledge on producing antigens and antibodies has been used in the manufacture of reagents for in vitro diagnostics and research.

Research and development projects at SSI have lead to isolation of antigens of numerous organisms. The antigens have been used for immunizations and some for additional purposes, e.g. cellular immunology assays.
