Disinfectant Testing

SSI offers a solution that contains all the required microbiological testing of disinfective agents as well as the correct documentation for the relevant authorities.

A coming EU directive requires that all disinfectants must be approved before coming on to the European market, regardless of whether they are for home, hospital or food-industry use.

Before a product can be approved, the EU regulations demand documentation for the product’s safety and efficacy.

SSI is one of the few laboratories in Europe that has experience with evaluating the effect of disinfectants on vira. SSI tests the efficacy of virucides, bacteriocides and fungicides and can therefore fulfill the practical investigation of a disinfectant’s effect. The requirements for scientific documentation of a disinfectant’s effect are laid out in the EU’s Biocide Directive. The documentation consists of an extensive dossier that must be sent to the authorities in order to obtain the required approval.

EU’s Biocide Directive

Since the 1st September 2006, all chemical products that are designed to combat living organisms, (biocides), have had to be approved. This means that wide range of products that previously could be sold freely now have to be validated for health and environmental risks as well as efficacy. These include products used for personal hygiene, as well as disinfectants used in the home or the Health Service.

For more information, please refer to the Biocide Directive.

SSI teams up with DHI to test disinfectants

DHI’s area of expertise lies in the preparation of documentation that meets the demands of the EU regulations. DHI is an independent international advisory and research organization.
DHI is approved as a Technological Service Institute (GTS) by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Development and is part of the GTS network.
