Environment and Energy
Statens Serum Intstitut (SSI) wishes to ensure the employees’ health, safety and welfare and to create a culture that promotes a good working environment.
SSI is working diligently to achieve this and is a safe workplace. Approx. 15-20 injuries are reported annually, 1-2 are serious, which number is low compared to the 1,300 full-time equivalents.

As a public disease control enterprise, SSI recognizes also to have a special responsibility as to ensure a high level of environmental protection by reducing the local and global environmental impacts from SSI’s activities.
Parts of SSI's operations are characterized by a high consumption of energy, water and raw materials. Furthermore, in some cases infectious materials are used in daily work, and these materials must be handled properly - both when used in production or diagnostic tests, and when it is to be disposed as waste.
SSI is working systematically to manage the above-mentioned environmental and energy conditions and has therefore introduced both environmental and energy management.
