Controlling infectious diseases
As a national laboratory, our diagnostic activities are an integral part of our work to control infectious diseases.
These include:
Developing and performing specialized diagnoses in our core areas,
Laboratory-based surveillance
Advising our customers.
These activities are continually adjusted to suit the changing infection scenarios and are able to respond quickly to new and unexpected diseases such as SARS and avian influenza.
Quality assurance
The majority of Statens Serum Institut’s services are accredited in accordance with ISO 17025 ‘General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories’.
Our quality assurance ensures that the analyses are performed according to international standards. The analytical equipment is validated/calibrated regularly, and targets have been set for the service offered to our users. In addition, the Institute’s testing laboratories are audited by external technical experts in accordance with internationally recognized standards. We are therefore able to guarantee high and uniform quality.
Innovative and high-tech diagnostics
Statens Serum Institut’s diagnostic services are “state of the art” and ensure that the Danish population is quickly offered the best solutions. Our diagnostic services are developed and continually optimized. We carry out extensive research and development in all core diagnostic areas and are committed to implementing the latest technologies. For example, research into genetic markers and the introduction of molecular biology methods.
A total of 30-40 innovative analyses are implemented every year.
