Infection Control

The National Center for Infection Control (NCIC) has advisory function to the Danish healthcare system – hospitals, primary healthcare, and authorities. NCIC makes national guidelines in collaboration with infection control experts and partners.

Surveillance of healthcare-acquired infections: NCIC coordinates national prevalence surveys (twice yearly).

NCIC is responsible for education of infection control staff. A common Nordic diploma programme in infection control was established in 2007 and takes place at the Nordic School of Public Health in Gothenburg, Sweden. See details on www.nhv.se.

NCIC has made web-based interactive training materials on hand hygiene, hygiene in primary healthcare, and on prevention of cathether-associated urinary tract infections.

The hand hygiene program is translated into English:

Important information about hand hygiene! An interactive training material about hand hygiene. Technical support - requirements for pc and software

Disinfectants are evaluated before introduction to the Danish hospitals and primary healthcare sector. The evaluation is based on summaries of EN test standards performance, effect on humans (e.g. skin and mucous membranes), occupational health aspects, toxicology, and environmental aspects.
